KANE'OHE
Marine base runway to close for construction
The runway at Marine Corps Base Hawaii closed yesterday for approximately three months for construction upgrades.
Some of the improvements include the replacement of asphalt for concrete, painting of taxiways and ramps, upgrades to the Mokapu Road crossing, and the replacement of current runway lights with light-emitting diodes to conserve energy.
The Navy P-3 Orion squadrons at the Kane'ohe Bay base will operate out of Hickam Air Force Base during the construction, while the helicopter squadrons will continue to operate out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
During construction, airfield hours will be 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Mondays; 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays; closed Saturdays and Sundays.
