Obituary: Joe Krol, winner of six football Grey Cups, dies at 89

TORONTO — Joe Krol, a winner of six Grey Cups and Canada's athlete of the year in 1946 and 1947, has died. He was 89.

Krol died in a Toronto hospital Tuesday, the Toronto Argonauts said Wednesday. He had been hospitalized after a fall in his apartment.

A triple threat, Krol won five of six Grey Cups with the Argonauts. He won his first with the Hamilton Wildcats in 1943 and consecutive Grey Cups from 1945-47 with the Argonauts. He also won Cups in 1950 and '52.
