Golf: NCAA puts Coastal Carolina on 2-year probation

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The NCAA put Coastal Carolina on two years' probation for financial infractions by a former women's golf coach.
Brian Ashley was not named specifically in the decision released by the NCAA on Wednesday, but he was the Chanticleers coach when two team members received improper financial aid.
He stepped down as Coastal Carolina coach a year ago.
The NCAA said the infractions were narrow in scope and limited to Ashley and two women golfers. Ashley was given a 30-month show cause order should he pursue another college coaching job.
The NCAA said Ashley's conduct was unethical because of the willful and blatant nature of his violations and his refusal to cooperate fully with investigators.
