Red Cross assisting Oahu flood victims

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided about $20,000 in financial assistance for food, clothing, bedding to families in Wai'anae, La'ie, North Shore and Waimanalo, hardest hit by last week's flooding.

In addition, Home Depot has donated three large truck loads of supplies such as tarps, blankets, shovels, work gloves, rope, clean up kits, garbage bags, toiletries, and stuffed toys for distribution through the Red Cross.

Red Cross case and mental health workers, together with state and city agencies and other non-profit organizations, are staffing Disaster Assistance and Recovery Centers, which will be open tomorrow and Saturday, at the following locations:

  • Tomorrow, 1-7 p.m. at Kualoa Ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Hwy., and Waipahu District Park, 94-230 Paiwa St.

  • Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Kualoa Ranch and Brigham Young University-Hawai'i's Aloha Center.

At these Centers, Red Cross volunteers will meet with more families to assess their individual needs, including financial assistance for food, clothing, bedding, and in some cases, rental assistance.

Volunteers are also assisting victims on Kaua'i.

The Red Cross needs to raise $100,000 to help the victims of these floods. Donation information available at (808) 739-8109 or www.hawaiiredcross.org
