SCHE Hawaii, local manufacturer of fashionable maternity wear (we knew them as Leighlani, but they've changed their name), will give two free maternity garments to all pregnant military women and wives from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Hot Mama Maternity, 3435 Wai'alae Ave. in Kaimuki, in appreciation for their continuing sacrifice.

SCHE founders Stacey Schiller and Holland Henderson, both young mothers from O'ahu, said they wanted to do something during the holidays, "to honor our military and their families for all they do for our country and each of us." A military ID must be shown to be eligible.

DISCO! PARTY & FASHION SHOW

"Get Your Strut On" is the theme of a fashion show to be presented by Heavywater Magazine, featuring HIC and Lost's spring lines. It's part of a DISCO! party to benefit the Surfrider Foundation's O'ahu chapter, to be held from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., tomorrow at The Waterfront, Aloha Tower Marketplace. Presale tickets are $10 at HIC stores or www.HNLnow.com, and $15 at the door.

A HISTORIC HOLIDAY COLLECTION

A historic costume collection, gathered from local theaters and private collections, will be the centerpiece of a fundraiser for the Hawai'i Gifted Association. Mannequins will display holiday attire, gowns embellished with satin and lace trims, as well as a cruise-wear line reminiscent of the nautical look so popular in decades past. There will also be items from Rabbitt in Paradise, refreshments from Tea at 1024 and desserts from Padovani's Chocolates. The event will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday at the Manoa Valley Inn; $50, 597-8824.

SIERRA DEW MAKES DEBUT AT INTO

Sierra Dew is a young designer with an impressive pedigree. Born and raised on Maui, she attended UH-Manoa then went on to Polimoda Fashion Design college in Florence, Italy. Now she's living in Honolulu and is working with both jewelry and clothing. She will introduce her eclectic creations at a party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at INTO, 40 N. Hotel St.; 536-2211.

ON OUR RADAR | ART WITH IDEAS

The Honolulu Academy of Arts gift shop jewelry collections speak to the idea that jewelry is wearable art, not only beautiful but interesting and even thought-provoking. It has to be polished and sophisticated, of course, but also a new way of looking at something as simple as a pebble or a seed.

The buyers seek new designers from all over the world. Their current collections come from France, Italy, Argentina, Colombia, Japan and across the Mainland. We especially love the bold, sculptural pewter and sterling pieces by Roberto Coppari of Italy and the magical mesh creations of Francisca Kweitel of Argentina that begin as recycled plastic. Also of note: the delicate, sophisticated stylings of Alice Roche of San Francisco and the amazing pieces by Rena Luxx of Germany, created with river rocks.
