A total of 500 applications for storm-related services were processed this week through multi-agency Disaster Assistance and Recovery Centers in Waialua, Hale'iwa, La'ie, Windward Oahu, Waipahu and the Wai'anae Coast, state Civil Defense spokesman Ray Lovell said yesterday.

After four days in operation, the centers closed at 4 p.m. yesterday. Lovell said more than 240 O'ahu homes sustained major damage or were destroyed by flooding Dec. 11 and 13 that was brought on by heavy rains.

The number of homes that received minor damage is "approaching 300," he added.

He said that in the coming days damage assessments would be made based on information compiled through the centers.

"We don't have a dollar amount yet," said Lovell. "That will take a little time."
