Tennessee women upset No. 3 Stanford

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Shekinna Stricklen scored eight of her season-high 25 points in overtime and No. 11 Tennessee upset No. 3 Stanford, 79-69, yesterday in a rematch of the 2008 women's national championship game.

Stricklen entered the extra period hot, knocking down a long jumper and two 3s to give the Lady Vols a 76-69 lead with 2:48 left.

Angie Bjorklund added 16 points for Tennessee, and Stricklen and Vicki Baugh had seven rebounds each.

Jayne Appel led the Cardinal with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jeanette Pohlen added 16 points, and Kayla Pedersen had 15 points.

NO. 1 CONNECTICUT 83, FLORIDA STATE 71

Renee Montgomery hit seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points to lead the Huskies (10-0) over the Seminoles (9-4) in the finale of the Caribbean Classic at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico. Sophomore Maya Moore added 18 points for UConn.

NO. 4 TEXAS A&M 64, NO. 24 TCU 50

Takia Starks scored 21 points to lead the host Aggies (10-0) over the Horned Frogs (8-4). Texas A&M won despite shooting 2-of-15 on 3-pointers. The Aggies made up for it by forcing 23 turnovers. They had 16 steals.

NO. 6 OKLAHOMA 94, TULSA 42

Ashley Paris had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the host Sooners (9-2) in a rout of the Golden Hurricane (3-6). Oklahoma's Courtney Paris added 16 points and 10 rebounds, extending her NCAA record streak of consecutive double-doubles to 103 games.

NO. 9 LOUISVILLE 67, VERMONT 56

Deseree' Byrd had 15 points and five assists, and Candyce Bingham added 14 points to help the host Cardinals (10-1) hold off the Catamounts (5-5). Angel McCoughtry scored a season-low 12 points in 24 foul-plagued minutes for Louisville.

NO. 10 AUBURN 74, COPPIN ST. 46

Alli Smalley scored 20 points to lead Auburn (12-0) in a rout of the host Eagles (0-9), giving Tigers coach Nell Fortner her 100th collegiate win. Smalley was also 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. No. 15 Maryland 74, Old Dominion 65: DeMauria Liles scored 20 points and the Terps (9-2) held the host Lady Monarchs (5-4) without a field goal for the final four minutes.

Nakeya Isabell's career-high 12 assists helped lead the the host Waves (6-5) over the Spartans (1-9). Chasity Shavers had 15 points for San Jose State.

Dellena Criner scored 15 points to lead the host Wolf Pack (6-5) over the Highlanders (3-7). Seyram Gbewonyo had 14 points for UC Riverside.

HAWAI'I DIVISION II

HARDING (ARK.) 83, CHAMINADE 65

Stacey Owens scored 19 points as the Lady Bisons (10-0) beat the host Silverswords (0-8) at McCabe gym.

Samantha Saito scored 23 points and Jasmine Dulan 15 for Chaminade.

NO. 3 PITTSBURGH 56, FLORIDA STATE 48

Sam Young scored 21 points as the Panthers (12-0) overcame 33 percent shooting to beat the host Seminoles (11-2).

NO. 25 CLEMSON 91, MIAMI 72

K.C. Rivers scored 28 points and the Tigers (12-0) easily overcame an early 12-point deficit against the host Hurricanes (7-3) on the way to winning the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Aron Baynes scored 18 points, 12 in the second half, to lead the Cougars (8-3) past the cross-border rival and host Vandals (6-6). Former WSU guard Mac Hopson led the Vandals with 10 points.

HAWAI'I-HILO 98, ILLINOIS COLLEGE 72

Bryan Ngo scored a game-high 21 points to lead four other teammates in double figures as the host Vulcans (6-2) beat the Blueboys (3-5) at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

UHH's Perry Baggett added 18 points and 15 rebounds, Brandon Price 17 points, Jacob Briggs 13 points and John Smith 12 points. Jacob Tucker led Illinois College with 15 points.
