Weather: Christmas may be a bit wet this year

Advertiser Staff

Enjoy the sunshine — while it lasts.

The National Weather Service said trade winds will become locally breezy by Christmas Eve as a strong high pressure area moves in far to the north of the islands.

The airmass will gradually become more moist and unstable ahead of an upper level low pressure area approaching the islands from the east, according to the forecast.

This will lead to increasing showers as the week progresses, with unsettled weather and locally heavy showers possible as we head into the holiday weekend.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 79. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Tonight: Scattered showers after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Scattered showers, mainly before noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind between 14 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday Night: Scattered showers, mainly after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Christmas Day: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
