EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Jordan Farmar underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, and the Los Angeles Lakers backup point guard is expected to be out approximately eight weeks.

The surgery took a half-hour and was performed by Dr. Clarence Shields of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Group.

Farmar, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound third-year pro who attended UCLA, was injured during the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 89-87 loss at Miami on Friday night. He is averaging 7.9 points, 2.4 assists and 19.6 minutes per game.

The Lakers made the 22-year-old Farmar the 26th overall pick in the 2006 draft. He averaged 4.4 points in 72 games as a rookie and 9.1 points in 82 games last season.
