'The Pet Hui,' a TV show just for Island pet lovers
| |||
There's a new friendly pet show on OC 16 called "The Pet Hui." It runs every other Monday at 6 p.m., Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m. Check the schedule for other times.
It has the latest news on pet care, training and stories, hosted by Denby Dung, former Miss Hawaii. Some of the most viewed segments are Babe, the two- legged dog, the pit bull association gathering and how mini goats make great pets. (Now I want a goat, too!)
Kailua resident Ron Darby is the show's producer and a true animal lover. He started "The Pet Hui" in March 2008 but has been producing shows for more than 20 years. He went to Florida in 2005 to produce "Animal Attractions TV" for PBS and enjoyed finding interesting pet stories. He's still doing that today on "The Pet Hui." "My goal is to find interesting stories in relationship about people and their pets," he says.
Darby has a rescue cat named Obikardbi, a rabbit called Milkshake, a Jackson chameleon and a full tank of fish at home. He grew up in Kane'ohe and has had dogs all his life.
Some of his favorite shows are "Babe, the two-legged dog" and "Malu, the surfing dog."
"I like to do shows on animals helping people such as the segment on the Hawaii Fido organization. It's nice to see how selfless animals are. They don't care about themselves, just what they can do for you. That's what I love about this show," he says.

If you love pets, this is a perfect show for you and your family. If you have any questions that you'd like answered on "The Pet Hui," or want to see something on the show, let me know. I'd be happy to share them with Ron.
