Kona Joe Coffee creates 'Barack O Blend'

Advertiser Staff

The owners of Kona Joe Coffee on the Big Island have created a blend of Hawaiian, Indonesian and Kenyan coffees called "Barack O Blend."

Joe and Deepa Tiare Alban, who own the 20-acre coffee plantation in South Kona, said they closely followed Barack Obama's path to the White House over the past year.

"Like everyone else, my husband and I were excited and we wanted to create something for our native-born son of Hawai'i," said Deepa Alban.

The Albans have been growing award-winning coffee beans for more than a decade on their plantation on the southwestern slopes of Hualalai, 1,000 feet above Kealakekua Bay.

The special Barack O Blend will be available for sale beginning Jan. 20, Obama's inauguration day. It will be sold at the plantation and on the Internet at www.konajoe.com.
