LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State has chosen UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker to be the Aggies new head coach.
NMSU made the announcement Tuesday. A news conference was scheduled for Wednesday morning to formally introduce Walker.
Walker will replace Hal Mumme, who was fired earlier this month. Mumme was 11-38 in four seasons and NMSU went 3-9 this season, including a 1-7 mark in the Western Athletic Conference that included a seven-game losing streak.
Walker is in his third season with UCLA. He also has coached with the Washington Redskins, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.
Walker visited NMSU on Monday and met with administrators and toured the athletic facilities.
