Motorcyclist dies from injuries in accident caused by truck

Advertiser Staff

A motorcyclist involved in an accident with a truck Monday afternoon near Aniani Street in Waipahu has died, according to police.

After the motorcycle crashed, the driver of the truck did not offer assistance and fled, police said.

Police last night said they found the truck, but not the driver, on Leonui Street in Waipahu. The truck has distinctive features such as custom rims, a running board and a tow hitch, police said.

Both the 47-year-old motorcycle rider and the truck — possibly a Ford F-150 with an extended cab — were traveling east on Farrington Highway, police said. The teal-colored truck was in the left lane and the motorcyclist was in the right lane when the truck made an abrupt right turn into a Chevron gas station, cutting off the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcyclist lost control and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet, police said. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and died last night.

A security camera at a nearby gas station recorded a photograph of the truck, said police spokesman Maj. Frank Fujii.

Fujii said it was not clear if the truck hit the motorcyclist.

Police have opened an investigation into negligent homicide and failure to render aid.
