Tantalus Drive reopened after mudslide

Tantalus Drive has been reopened after being closed since early this morning by a mudslide and other safety concerns.
The road remained closed even after crews had cleared and cleaned the area of the mudslide, which occurred near Kala'i'opua Place, where Tantalus Drive and Round Top Drive meet.
A tree in the same vicinity fell onto the road on Friday. While that tree has since been removed, city officials are worried about other trees in the area that look as though they might be in danger of also falling in inclement weather, Keoki Miyamoto, the city's deputy director for facility maintenance, said before the road was reopened.
Today, the mudslide occurred around 4 a.m. and police cut off access a short time later. The road is under the jurisdiction of the city, while the property where the mudslide and tree-falling occurred is owned and managed by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
