Woman faces abuse charge

A 21-year-old Mililani woman was arrested on a felony charge of abuse of a household member after a domestic argument escalated early yesterday morning.

The woman was charged and held on $1,000 bail for alleged abuse of her 25-year-old husband. The woman allegedly jumped on her husband's back, wrapped her arms around his neck, choked him and bit him on the shoulder, Honolulu police said.



TRAFFIC STOP NABS PRISON ESCAPEE

A 45-year-old prison escapee, who was stopped by police because he didn't have his headlights on, was returned to prison yesterday.

Herbert Harry French was stopped at 3:30 a.m. yesterday on King Street near Ke'eamoku Street. He had been missing from the Laumaka Work Furlough Program since Tuesday, police said.

In 2001, French was arrested for first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary in connection with an incident where three robbers broke into a hotel room at 1700 Ala Moana and demanded money from a man.

The robbers beat the man, threatened him with a knife and took his wallet. Police arrested French within an hour of the robbery.



CHARITIES SHARE DETAILS WITH IRS

Hawai'i has become the first state in the nation to share information with the IRS on its 5,500 local charities, under new laws designed to strengthened the state's oversight.

Tax return information will be shared with state charity oversight agencies, provided confidentiality is maintained.
