UH's Wichmann earns WAC honor

University of Hawai'i senior Annett Wichmann yesterday was named Western Athletic Conference indoor track and field athlete of the week.
Wichmann won the pentathlon at the Washington Invitational with an NCAA provisional 4,027 points, which leads the WAC and ranked fifth in the nation. Her victory included a school-record 8.99 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and a personal best 5 feet, 8 inches in the high jump.
Wichmann shared the honor with Louisiana Tech's Chasidee Lewis-Baker, who ran a WAC-leading 7.50 seconds in the 60-meter dash at the Indiana Relays.

DWYER IN SBS OPEN
Kailua's Bridget Dwyer, a decorated student-athlete at UCLA who has golfed professionally since 2004, received a sponsor's exemption to play in the LPGA's SBS Open at Turtle Bay, Feb. 14 to 16 on the North Shore.
Dwyer has been on the Duramed Futures Tour — the LPGA's developmental tour — the past two years, finishing 64th and 72nd on the money list. She was a finalist on Big Break VI with Donald Trump, which aired in 2006 on The Golf Channel.

VOLLEYBALL
PUNAHOU ALUM HIRED
USA Volleyball hired former pro Danalee (Bragado) Corso as technical coordinator and master coach.
Corso, a 1989 Punahou School graduate, will serve as the junior national team coach while organizing youth and junior beach volleyball performance camps and helping select and train junior athletes for international tournaments.
Corso played volleyball at Loyola Marymount before heading to the beach on the American and international beach volleyball tours.
