Hearing set on sewage treatment plant variance

A public hearing on whether the Environmental Protection Agency should extend a variance for the Sand Island wastewater treatment plant is set for March 12.
The variance exempts the city plant from some secondary treatment requirements.
The public comment period for the variance extension runs through March 31.
The March 12 hearing starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Middle School cafeteria, 1663 S. King St. For more information on the variance, go to www.epa.gov.
