TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE

"The Color Purple" (1985, BET/KHON, digital 598) or "Jurassic Park" (1993, AMC); 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Two Steven Spielberg films, with opposite tones. "Jurassic Park" is just for fun. Nasty dinosaurs chase people; there are the visual thrills that Spielberg does best. "Color Purple," is a strong Black History Month choice. Its story (from Alice Walker's novel) ripples with pain. Spielberg kept that, but added beauty. For all of its agony, this is a wonderful film to see and (thanks to Quincy Jones' score) hear. The superb cast includes Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey.

"Friday Night Lights," 8 p.m., NBC. A great series has its last new episode (for now, at least), with characters in chaos. Smash, the running back, has lost his college scholarship. Matt, the quarterback, is wobbling emotionally. Tonight, Smash ponders a new possibility; Street gets key news.

OF NOTE

"Grey's Anatomy," 7 p.m., ABC. Here's a rerun of the moderately good Halloween episode. Meredith is spooked by the presence of her mother's ashes. Also, Callie blurts to everyone about the affair between her husband George and Izzie.

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. Melinda tries to help a stalking victim, then has troubles herself.

"Gone Country," 6 p.m., CMT/KHON, digital 587. Here's a new round of this fun reality show, in which John Rich (Big & Rich) tries to teach city folk — from Dee Snider to Bobby Brown — how to sing and think country. Tonight, they visit the ranch of his friend, Gretchen Wilson.

"Flash Gordon," 9 p.m., Sci Fi Channel. This disappointing series wraps up its season with a crisis. Azura brings warriors to help Ming.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. In a rerun, a woman gulps sleeping pills, after having been awake for 10 days. Dr. House has his own sleep problems, caused by living with Wilson.

"Desperate Housewives," 8:02 p.m., ABC. Doesn't TV tell us that all gay guys have great taste? Tonight, the new couple installs an ugly water sculpture, stirring a neighborhood meeting. Also, Gabrielle is pursued by both Carlos and John — plus, of course, her husband.

"In Treatment," 7:30 p.m., HBO. This has been a brutal week for Paul (Gabriel Byrne), the therapist. One patient stunned him by deciding to marry, another by deciding to divorce. Then his wife said she's having an affair. Now he returns to his former mentor (Dianne Wiest) and they reflect on past troubles. Their previous session reruns at 7.

"Las Vegas," 9 p.m., NBC. Terry Bradshaw plays a horse-race better who arouses suspicion by always being right.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, a killer seems to be copying biblical deaths.

"Psych," 10 p.m., USA network. "Monk" will be back next week, but "Psych" has a new episode, with the guys pretending to be models.
