UH volleyball plays alumni today

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team takes a mid-season break from conference action to play a star-studded lineup of former Warriors in the annual alumni matches today at the Stan Sheriff Center.

An all-alumni match starts at 4 p.m., followed by the alumni taking on the varsity at 7.

More than 20 former Warriors are expected to compete, including Dio Dante (2004-07), Troy Hotz (1995-96), Maulia La Barre (2001, 04-06), Sivan Leoni (1995-98), Pono Ma'a (1983-86), Kimo Tuyay (2001-04) and Eyal Zimet (2000-03).

UH dropped a two-match series to UC Santa Barbara last weekend to fall into 10th in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation standings at 2-4.


WATER POLO

UH BEATS CAL, 7-6

Carmen Eggens scored two goals, including the go-ahead score with just under six minutes to play, as the fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's team beat No. 5 California, 7-6, last night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Berkeley, Calif.

Angela Turnbull and Lisa van Raalte also scored two goals for the Rainbow Wahine (2-0 overall, 2-0 MPSF). Kelly Mason's goal in the fourth period tied the score 6-6.

Meghan Corso scored three goals for the Golden Bears (4-1, 2-1).

Hawai'i continues its season-opening road trip with a match against UC Santa Cruz today.


GOLF

UHH 15TH, UH 16TH

Hawai'i-Hilo is in 15th place and Hawai'i-Manoa in 16th after yesterday's second round of the UH-Hilo Invitational at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

The final round of the 18-team men's tournament will be played today.

The host Vulcans have a two-round total of 8-over 568. Logan Goulding leads UHH with 71—142 to share 51st place.

The Warriors are at 10-over 570, led by Kyle Waters (67—139), who is tied for 22nd.

Stanford leads with 22-under 538, five shots ahead of Arizona State.

USC's Jamie Lovemark (65) and Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard (63) share the lead at 131.
