The Ladies Professional Golf Association launches its season in Hawai'i again this year, and again there's a Korean broadcasting connection: the LPGA SBS Open at Turtle Bay Resort is sponsored by a Korean network, Seoul Broadcasting System.

The SBS Open will celebrate its fourth year in Hawai'i with a weeklong schedule today through Saturday. The Pro-Qualifying Tournament is tomorrow, followed by a professional practice round Tuesday. There is a Pro Am tournament on Wednesday followed by a private Chairman's Dinner. Thursday is the first round of the SBS Open, and the Golf Channel will be televising live from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Friday is the second round, with same live coverage on the Golf Channel; and Saturday is the final round, with trophy presentation on the 18th green.

SBS is the top privately owned broadcasting company in South Korea; other stations, such as KBS and MBC, have government connections.

SBS has a partnership with the LPGA, broadcasting the league's events in South Korea. SBS operates one ground-based channel, two radio stations, and four satellite channels providing sports, drama, entertainment, documentaries and news there.

Since its founding in 1990, SBS has tried to create its own niche in the market with programming that has often been top-rated. The SBS Open, for example, will be broadcast live from Kahuku to South Korea, at a time when the temperatures there are near freezing. Hawai'i will once again be showcased internationally as a vacation destination. And the SBS Open not only brings dollars into the Hawai'i economy but also benefits local charities.

SBS has another year left in its commitment to the tournament here.

"Bride From Vietnam" will not be shown this week due to special airing of the 2007 SBS Drama Awards. Find out which of your favorite actors and actresses will be awarded for their 2007 drama work.
