Trader Joe's barring some Chinese imports

MONROVIA, Calif. — Trader Joe's will stop offering some Chinese-made food products in its stores because of customer concerns about safety.
The chain, which has nearly 300 stores nationwide, announced Monday that all single-ingredient food items from mainland China will be off the shelves by April 1. That includes items such as garlic and frozen spinach.
Products that include ingredients from China and other sources won't be removed.
A statement from Monrovia-based Trader Joe's says the company was confident the Chinese products were safe, but it was listening to concerns from customers. It didn't say how many items were being removed.
China's exports have come under intense scrutiny in the past year after lead and dangerous chemicals were found in goods ranging from dog food to toys and toothpaste.
