Office Depot to donate backpacks at Waipahu store

Advertiser Staff

Office Depot plans to distribute 75 new children's backpacks to three local nonprofit organizations tomorrow as part of a grand-opening ceremony for its new store at Waipahu Town Center.

The Office Depot Foundation will donate 25 backpacks each plus $500 contributions to Sariling Gawa Youth Council, Child and Family Service and The Hawaii Foodbank.

The donations are part of a charitable program by the national retailer that has given away nearly 1.5 million backpacks to deserving children through nonprofit organizations and schools since Office Depot began the campaign in 2001.

Delray Beach, Fla.-based Office Depot has about 1,600 stores around the world with most of them in North America. The company has four stores in Hawai'i.

Office Depot's Waipahu store opened Feb. 8. Tomorrow's ceremony is slated to start at 2 p.m. and include appearances by state and city officials as well as the public.
