Bioethics conference in Waikiki takes on healthcare

The 2008 International Bioethics Conference, with the topic "America's Broken Healthcare System," is Feb. 21-22 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
The conference, sponsored by Hawaii Medical Center (formerly St. Francis Medical
Center), will feature lectures on "Expensive Care as a Cultural Equivalent of Respect: Medical Ceremonies," "Wasting Billions of Dollars on Defensive Medicine" and "Aesthetic Spa Medicine: Healthcare or Gimmickry."
Registration fees range from $150 (students and residents, one day) to $575 (nonresidents, two days).
