Hawaii's high surf appears to be on way down today

A large ocean swell out of the northwest appears to have peaked and is expected to subside slowly today allowing the high surf to diminish as well, the National Weather Service said.
A high-surf warning will remain in effect until 10 a.m. today and will likely be reduced to a high-surf advisory from 10 a.m. today through 6 a.m. Saturday.
The warning and advisory pertain to north- and west-facing shores from Ni'ihau to Maui.
Today's forecast for O'ahu calls for surf of 20 feet to 25 feet early this morning along north-facing shores, decreasing to 15 feet to 20 feet by midday.
Surf along west-facing shores will be 12 feet to 20 feet early this morning decreasing to 10 feet to 15 feet by midday.
Surf along east-facing shores will be 2 feet to 4 feet through today. Locally higher surf can be expected along beaches and reefs exposed to the north.
Surf along south-facing shores will be 2 feet to 4 feet through today.
