Advertiser Staff

A 69-year-old pedestrian was critically injured yesterday morning when she tried to dart across South King Street outside of a crosswalk and was hit.

The accident happened about 6:30 a.m. when the woman, who was in a pedestrian island on South King Street near the intersection with Kalakaua Avenue, tried to run across South King Street outside of a crosswalk.

She was hit by a car headed eastbound and thrown 30 feet, police said. The woman was taken to the Queen's Medical Center with injuries to her head and pelvis.

The 78-year-old driver of the car was not injured. Both the pedestrian and driver are from Honolulu.
