Iacovelli, Owens capture Aloha Run

Todd Iacovelli of Kailua and Casey Owens of Des Moines, Iowa, were the top male and female finishers, respectively, in yesterday's Great Aloha Run.
Iacovelli finished the 8.15-mile course from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium in 41 minutes, 38 seconds. He was followed by Christian Madsen (41:46) of Honolulu and Brandon Laan (43:11) of Honolulu.
Owens won in 47:51, followed by Bree Wee (47:56) of Kailua, Kona, and Eri Macdonald (48:44) of Kailua.
A total of 20,877 started the run, according to officials.
SOFTBALL
HPU SWEEPS BYUH
Courtney Kessell pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Hawai'i Pacific beat Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 10-0, yesterday to complete a doubleheader sweep at the BYUH Field.
Kessell faced 16 batters, with one reaching on an error, while striking out six for the Sea Warriors (4-0). Anuhea Young hit a two-run double and three-run homer.
In the opener, Tajia Acierto's groundout scored Krystal Plunkett with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth as HPU rallied from a six-run deficit to beat BYUH, 10-9.
Puna Waiolama hit a three-run homer for HPU. Kerissa Clifford had three RBIs, including a two-run triple, and Melissa Lehano and Margaret Gnadt each had two hits for the Seasiders (0-11).
MILCA HONORED
Junior right fielder Tanisha Milca, who helped Hawai'i win the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic, has been named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Milca, who was the tournament's Most Valuable Player, had team highs in average (.500), runs scored (6), hits (10), doubles (3), total bases (16) and on-base percentage (.549).
GOLF
CHO, PASECHNIK QUALIFY
Irene Cho, a second-year pro, shot a 6-under-par 66 yesterday in the LPGA's Fields Open qualifier at the Ko Olina Golf Course.
Cho, who played in 20 tournaments and earned $61,039 on the LPGA Tour last season, received one of two berths to the Fields Open, which will run Thursday through Saturday at Ko Olina.
Cindy Pasechnik, a fourth-year pro, earned the other spot after shooting a 68.
Hawai'i amateurs Stephanie Kono (70) and Cyd Okino (73) also competed in the qualifier.
TRACK AND FIELD
WEAVER WINS SHOT PUT
University of Hawai'i senior Meghan Weaver won the shot put with a heave of 50 feet, 9 1/2 inches Sunday at the University of Washington Open Meet at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle.
Weaver broke her school record and earned an NCAA provisional mark with her toss as she moved closer to earning a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
Junior Thalia Amanakis won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.69 seconds and the 400 in a school-record 55.64. Also, junior Emily Sheppard won the high jump at 5-9 and senior Annett Wichmann captured the long jump at 18-8 3/4.
SAILING
UH WOMEN SEVENTH
The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team finished seventh among nine teams at the South Florida Intersectional last weekend in Tampa, Fla.
Third-ranked Stanford won with a low-best 42 points. Hawai'i had 124 points.
