Campbell's Christian Storment beats Moanalua's Stevie Austin on this play, but Austin pretty much had his way most of the game as he dashed through the Sabers' defense for a game-high 25 points.

Moanalua turned a basketball game into a full-on sprint.

Stevie Austin scored 25 points to lead three players in double figures as Moanalua ran past Campbell, 65-43, in the first round of the Hawaiian Airlines/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball Division I Championships at McKinley.

Na Menehune (12-5) ran and pushed from the start and continued with that fast pace the entire game. Moanalua faces top-seeded 'Iolani (11-2) in tonight's quarterfinal.

"We came out strong, unlike how we started in the OIA (O'ahu Interscholastic Association) championship (game)," Austin said. "I knew we were going to have a good night because we were coming out strong like that."

Austin scored nine points in the third quarter when Moanalua turned a 32-22 halftime lead into a 20-point advantage. Austin scored on fast breaks, layups off turnovers and finally found a time to capitalize on his quickness.

"My coach was telling me to do that all season and I was kind of held back by injuries," Austin said. "Now I feel 100 percent and I can fulfill what he asks me to do."

Austin's three-point play started a 10-4 run in the final 3:06 of the third quarter. Marcus Monroe hit a 3-pointer to cap the run and give Moanalua a 54-34 lead.

"We got some perimeter shots, we got Stevie to knock down some shots to give us separation," Moanalua coach Greg Tacon said.

Josiah Kauhola finished with 12 points and Monroe added 11 for Moanalua.

Moanalua hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter and led 19-11 after the first eight minutes. Tacon said the quick start "gave us confidence."

Tacon said his team needs to play at its best to challenge the Raiders in the quarterfinals.

"You got to physically be ready to be challenged because they will be quick, they keep coming at you, they're a terrific team and well-coached," Tacon said.

Austin said there needs to be a team effort against 'Iolani.

"Myself, Josh (Kure), Ryan (Hua), our whole team basically has to come, work hard and want to win and have a great night," he said.
