Aqua Hotels & Resorts plans to close one of its boutique hotels in Waikiki — the Aqua Coconut Plaza — for renovation today, with a plan to reopen in June.
"The decision to close the hotel for planned upgrades and refurbishments makes it possible to accelerate the pace of work and meet a June 1 reopening date," said Elizabeth Churchill, vice president of sales and marketing at Aqua Hotels & Resorts.
She said work at the 81-room hotel includes a makeover and upgrade of the guest rooms and lobby with a "retro-inspired" look, high-definition TVs and wireless Internet.
"All of our travel partners have been notified and bookings have been accommodated at other Aqua hotels in Waikiki," Churchill said.
On June 1, when the hotel re-opens, it will be marketed as the Coconut Waikiki Hotel. It will also be upgraded to the Aqua Boutique Collection, offering its guests complimentary daily continental breakfast, a local newspaper, and local and toll-free calls.
Aqua Hotels & Resorts was founded in 2001 by Hawai'i hotelier Mike Paulin and now has 11 properties in Waikiki.
