Four arrested in sex-assault case

Advertiser Staff

Three men and a 16-year-old boy were being held on kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault charges last night after an attack near the state Capitol.

A 43-year-old woman told police that she was befriended by two of the men early yesterday morning at a Honolulu bus stop. They then allegedly lured her to a grassy area near state and city government buildings, where they were joined by two others.

Police said she was sexually assaulted by one, and possibly two, men. The others held her down during the assault, the woman told police.

The three men, ages 26, 23 and 19, along with the juvenile were arrested a short time later near the intersection of Beretania and Alapa'i streets. They remained in police custody last night.

MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER

A 42-year-old man was being held for attempted murder last night after he attacked two elderly men in Waikiki, police said.

The assault began Friday evening when the man used a fire extinguisher to try to beat down the apartment door of a 63-year-old man.

When a 77-year-old neighbor intervened, the man turned the fire extinguisher on him and discharged it in his face, police said.

When the 63-year-old man emerged from his apartment, the assailant struggled with him and tried to push him through a 26th-floor glass window, police said.

The suspect ran away, but was caught a short time later, police said. He also faces first-degree burglary and assault charges.
