Golf: Woods' match-play win increases TV ratings
Associated Press
NEW YORK — Tiger Woods' runaway victory in the Accenture Match Play Championship final drew a 67 percent higher rating than last year's numbers.
The 3.5 rating and 7 share on NBC were also the best final-round overnights for the event since 2004. Last year's final got a 2.1/4.
Woods defeated Stewart Cink 8 and 7 yesterday, the largest margin of victory in the 10-year history of the tournament.
Woods has won four straight and six of his last seven PGA Tour events. His 63rd victory moved him ahead of Arnold Palmer into fourth place on the career wins list.
Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV markets in the United States. The rating is the percentage watching a program among homes with televisions. National ratings were expected later in the week.
