Frear trust donates $150K to Pacific rehab hospital

Advertiser Staff

The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific will be installing underground fuel tanks thanks to a $150,000 grant from the Frear Eleemosynary Trust.

The tanks will have a 1,700-gallon capacity and will store three days of fuel for electrical generators that are used during natural disasters or a crisis.

Separately, Gov. Linda Lingle released $750,000 for seismic mitigation studies for 12 public hospitals managed by the Hawai'i Health Systems Corp. The Oct. 15, 2006, earthquake off of the Big Island revealed the need for better preparation.

The study will identify and implement corrective measures from problems occurring in future earthquakes.
