Ewa Beach man charged with attempted murder

An 'Ewa Beach man who allegedly ran down man with his car during an argument Monday night in Waipahu was charged today with attempted second-degree murder.
James Tacotaco "Keke" Martinez, 24 is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail tonight at the main police station cellblock pending his initial appearance tomorrow at District Court. Martinez also has an outstanding $150 warrant.
According to an affidavit compiled by police, Martinez was arguing Monday night with Karl Acosta, 43, to whom he owed money for electronic equipment, at about 11:30 p.m. A witness told police that as Acosta walked away from Martinez, the suspect allegedly got into a silver Honda Civic and drove directly at the victim.
Acosta was lying on the ground at the intersection of Kuhaulua and Kumukula streets when police arrived. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
Martinez drove away but was identified by witnesses. After being contacted by police, he surrendered at the Pearl City station at 4 a.m. Tuesday. Prosecutors charged him at 1:30 p.m. today.
