June Jones suspends SMU QB from spring practice

DALLAS — SMU quarterback Justin Willis has been suspended from spring practice by new coach June Jones for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
Willis, who set a school record with 3,643 yards of total offensive as a sophomore last season, was suspended along with safety Bryce Hudman.
SMU begins its spring workouts Monday.
SMU spokesman Brad Sutton said Jones "hasn't closed the door to their return." Missing spring practice could be costly for Willis as Jones, the former Hawaii coach, installs a new run-and-shoot offense.
The suspension is the second for Willis, Conference USA's freshman of the year in 2006. That same year he was suspended for fighting at an off-campus party and sat out one game.
