Lingle issued five pardons in 2007

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle last year pardoned five people for crimes ranging from contempt of court to assault and battery on a police officer.

The most recent conviction was in 1998 — for contempt of court — while the oldest crime was from 1962.

"These individuals made mistakes and have since proven their ability to lead law-abiding lives and to be productive members of our community," Lingle said in a news release.

These pardons bring Lingle's total to 71 since she took office in 2002. In 2006, she pardoned 21 individuals.

Last year's pardons include a pardon with express authorization for Ronald Forsythe Larsen, who was already pardoned in 2006 for assault and battery on a police officer and profanity in 1963, the only time he was arrested or convicted. The pardon with express authorization enables Larsen to possess or use a firearm.

The others pardoned are:

  • Tami Marie Arndt-Beatty, who was convicted in 1998 for contempt of court, a misdemeanor. The incident was her only arrest. Arndt-Beatty was pardoned March 14.

  • Carl Wilbert Dunaway, who was convicted of an assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor, in 1997. This was his only arrest. Dunaway was pardoned Jan. 17.

  • Michael Kenji Nakamura, whose convictions include larceny in the second degree in 1966, failure to render aid in 1962, burglary in the first degree in 1962, malicious conversion in 1961 and trespassing in 1961. Nakamura was discharged from parole in 1969 and had no other arrests. He was pardoned Feb. 28.

  • Frederick Anthony Whitney, who was convicted of driving under the influence in 1985 and 1975, assault in the third degree in 1975 and disorderly conduct in 1975 and 1967. He has had no arrests or convictions since the 1985 case. He was pardoned March 27.
