Sony Open in Hawaii field set after final qualifying

Doug LaBelle, a PGA Tour member from Mt. Pleasant, Mich., captured the final spot in qualifying yesterday for the Sony Open in Hawai'i, winning on the second hole of a six-way playoff.
LaBelle (36-32) was the fourth to earn a spot in the first full-field PGA Tour event of the season with his playoff victory at Makaha Resort. There were 64 golfers vying for the four spots.
Alex Aragon was the top qualifier. The pro from San Diego, shot 32-34—66 for a 6-under-par round.
Spencer Levin (35-32), a Nationwide Tour member, and Japanese pro Mitsuhiro Tateyama (34-33) claimed the next two spots.
The first round of the Sony Open in Hawai'i begins Thursday.

HAWAI'I MEN DROP ONE SPOT TO NO. 12 IN POLL
Hawai'i fell one spot to No. 12 in the first regular-season CSTV/AVCA men's volleyball coaches Top 15 poll.
Brigham Young is No. 1, followed by Pepperdine and Penn State, which won last week's Outrigger Hotels Invitational.
The Warriors, ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll, went 1-2 in the tournament.
Hawai'i opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play against Long Beach State Thursday and Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

EPSTEIN BROTHERS WILL HOLD HITTING CLINIC
Former big-leaguer Mike Epstein and his brother Jake Epstein will hold a baseball and softball hitting clinic Friday to Sunday at Kahala Elementary School playground and Kapaolono Park.
Friday's sessions run 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Kahala Elementary. Saturday's and Sunday's sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost is $295 for first-year attendees. There is a discount for those who attended last year.

'IOLANI JUNIOR HARDIN ON TOP 50 RECRUIT LIST
'Iolani School junior middle blocker Chelsea Hardin was named to the Top 50 recruits for the Class of 2009 by PrepVolley ball.com, according to a press release from the organization that conducted the rankings.
Hardin was an Advertiser All-State second-team selection this past season.
According to the press release, college coaches were polled for the listing.
