CELEB CITY: Actor Adam Sandler, attired in casual gear, showed up at Satura Cakes at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, and ordered up a cup of coffee and a glass of milk for his daughter. He joked with staffers, surveyed the cake display and vowed to return. ...

Harry Wayne Casey, who is KC of KC & the Sunshine Band, brought an entourage of 20, including band members, to old pal John Hirokawa's "Magic of Polynesia" show last Thursday. KC was in town for a sellout New Year's Eve concert at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. ...

Entertainer John Valentine, who opened up the Cyndi Lauper New Year's Eve concert at the Sheraton Waikiki's Hawaii Ballroom, taught her to sing "Tiny Bubbles" and she sang it with him, along with her "Time After Time." "It was awesome; I had goose bumps the whole time she was singing her song," Valentine said. ...

The aforementioned Lauper, actor David Hasselhoff, director Bryan Singer and producer Jeff Katzenberg were among the notables who dined at Roy's Hawai'i Kai over the holidays. Lauper loved her ribs so much, she had her photo taken with executive chef Ronnie Nasuti. ...

One more Eve item, with a New York dateline: Amid the traditional hoopla welcoming the drop of the ball and the start of the new year, the throngs at Times Square greeted 2008 with songs by a clutch of notables: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Over the Rainbow," John Lennon's "Imagine," Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," and Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful." Can only imagine the note-comparisons in heaven that night. ...

And at Chinatown's Little Village one evening, Alice Cooper and Herb Alpert shared a table and Chinese kaukau. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Jordan Segundo, one-time "American Idol" contestant and "Destination: Groove Dance Hawaii" co-host, will be the lone Island guest singer when Jim Brickman performs at 8 p.m. Jan. 19 and 20 at Blaisdell Concert Hall. Brickman, the kingpin of romantic music, is bringing along singer Anne Cochran and acoustic violinist David Klinkenberg (who appeared in last year's visit), so it should be a swooning evening. ...

Speaking of "Groove Dance," the TV competition winner, Cole Horibe, has been added to the "Breathe" concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hawai'i Theatre. Tiffany Thurston also will be on the mammoth roster, which includes Danny Couch, Yvonne Elliman, Cathy Foy-Mahi, Rai-atea Helm, Tony Conjugacion, Shari Lynn, Shawna Matsuda, Afatia Thompson and more. ...

Moloka'i Jazz West, performing from 5 to 8 p.m. every Friday at Don Ho's Island Grill, had the joint jumping in last Friday's launch, so expect more tomorrow night. Dawn Bicoy is featured singer. ...

HITHER 'N' YON: Actor Peter Fonda, who used to make Maui his home, was among the holiday diners at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Lahaina. Restaurant manager Luke Callahan said others included golfers Zack Johnson, Jonathan Byrd and Scott Verplank, in town for the 2008 Mercedes-Benz Championship at the Kapalua Plantation Course. ...

At Kimo's in Lahaina, Nick Faldo (three-time PGA Masters winner and now a CBS golf analyst) had lunch, while Don Sutton (former L.A. Dodgers pitcher and Baseball Hall of Famer) had dinner. ...

Sorry to learn of the Dec. 31 death of former entertainer Alford V. Paraz, who played with Wally & the Whalers, Clem Low, Loyal Garner and the Sonny Knight Trio. He was the father of Freddy Von Paraz of the Society of Seven Las Vegas. ...

And a celebration of life for playwright Lisa Y. Matsumoto will be held from 3 p.m. Sunday (visitation, followed by a program at 4 p.m.) at the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Ko'olau Golf Club in Kane'ohe. ...

Further, a memorial service for Kent Bowman, aka K.K. Ka'umanua, will held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's church in Kailua, followed by the scattering of ashes off Kailua Beach. ...

BROADCAST BITS: For the past six months, Ron Jacobs has been streaming contemporary and vintage Hawaiian music on his whodaguyhawaii.com site, bringing Island music to the planet from his hillside Kane'ohe "brah-cast" studio. He weaves music and interviews with a growing list of guest artists, incorporating his passion into new technologies. Folks who've jammed have promised to donate select tracks for a "Live at Whodaguy" CD to benefit his Association for Preservation of Hawaiiana Online. ...

Correspondent Mike Evans' revamped "Mike's Minute" now is a weekday fixture on KGMB-9's "Sunrise," which gives him flexibility to mix Hollywood with Hawai'i nuggets. ...

Folks we've seen on TV shows: Ex-localite Penny Balfour, playing a battered wife on "Without a Trace." Kevin Gray, last seen here as Scar in "The Lion King," as an attorney on "Law & Order." ...
