Honolulu police are investigating a rash of car vandalism incidents reported yesterday morning at homes in Hawai'i Kai and Wai'alae Iki.
Police received at least three calls about vandalized vehicles, all spray-painted with profanities using the same blue and black paint, starting at about midnight yesterday, police said.
The calls all came from vehicle owners who attended 'Iolani School. School officials confirmed that they knew of three incidents that occurred overnight but said they are still gathering information.
"We are always concerned for the safety of our students and graduates," said Cathy L. Chong, the school's communications director. "On or off campus, any kind of vandalism or destruction of property is unacceptable and wrong. Iolani will do everything possible and fully cooperate with authorities to solve this situation."
There may have been as many as five cars vandalized, police said.
As of yesterday evening, police had opened two criminal property damage investigations in connection with two cars that were spray-painted in Wai'alae Iki shortly after 3 a.m.
The cars' windows were blacked out and profanity was written all over the vehicles.
"We know of (at least) two cars being damaged but we've been unable to determine if they belong to 'Iolani School students," said Honolulu police Capt. Frank T. Fujii. "Anyone with information (about these cases), please call."
