Many people in Hawai'i were enraged after losing June Jones, University of Hawai'i- Manoa's former head football coach. The coach of nine years complained about the terrible condition of facilities and lack of the necessary materials for the school and its football program.
After visiting the university, I believe Jones' complaints are extremely credible.
Thus the Legislature must focus on making improvements to the university during this upcoming legislative session. It is not only the athletics program that needs to be addressed. The university buildings are dilapidated and the facilities are in terrible condition. The budget must be revisited and increased in order to address these issues at hand. Although it is not financially feasible to fix and address all the facilities' needs of the entire campus at one time, the budget for the university must be addressed every year and increased in order to make these changes possible.
Unfortunately, these issues have been neglected while we had Jones as our football coach. How many more wonderful people do we have to lose in order to finally take a look at truly improving the university's facilities?
It's hard to imagine minds being educated in buildings like the ones at the university.
I'm sure almost everyone in Hawai'i is extremely thankful to Jones and the UH Warriors for the newfound spark they've created in our hearts. By focusing on fixing the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, we would be able to give the Warriors the thanks they deserve.
