Chaminade men rally to beat BYU-Hawaii, 73-69

Rodrick Johnson had 25 points and eight rebounds as Chaminade rallied past host Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 73-69, Saturday night in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game at Cannon Activities Center.
Mike Green, who sank 6 of 9 3-point attempts, scored 24 points for the Silverswords (9-4 overall, 4-0 PacWest), who trailed 45-34 at intermission. Chaminade held BYUH to 30-percent shooting in the second half.
Lucas Alves led the Seasiders (7-4, 2-2) with 27 points and seven rebounds. Paul Peterson contributed 20 points for BYUH, which led until 4:35 to play when Stewart Kussler hit a jumper to put Chaminade ahead to stay.
Earlier, BYUH (2-10, 2-2) beat Chaminade (0-11, 0-4), 84-55, in a PacWest women's game. No details were available.
BASEBALL
UH FUNDRAISER JAN. 21
The annual Hawai'i Baseball Grand Slam Celebration is set for Jan. 21 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The event is a fundraiser for the UH Rainbow baseball program. Tickets are $75. Parking is free with the presentation of your ticket at the parking gate. Also included with the ticket are two tickets to the Feb. 17 game against UH-Hilo.
The event opens at 5:30 p.m. with the program scheduled to start at 6:30. Heavy pupu and drinks will be available for attendees, who will have a chance to meet players and coaches.
Food will be provided by Big City Diner, Compadres Bar & Grill, 3660 on the Rise, Hukilau, Mariposa, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Sergio's, Side Street Inn and Sodexho. Beer and wine tasting will be offered by Better Brands, Anheuser-Busch, Paradise Beverages and Southern Wine & Spirits.

BIATHLON
KING, FLANAGAN WIN
Emily King won the female open division and John Flanagan led the men's field in yesterday's Magic Island Biathlon
King completed the 2.5-mile run and 1-kilometer swim in 32 minutes, 49.7 seconds. Laura Springer (33:55.0) was second and Susan Johnson (36:04.7) third.
Flanagan finished in 28:33.9, followed by Efraim Ruthenberg (33:53.5) and Brendan Danner (34:01.2).
CAMP
SPRING INTO SPEED
The Hawai'i Speed & Quickness Camp spring series will run on weekends through March.
For a $10 fee, participants learn about health and fitness, increase their speed and quickness and work on their agility and jumping ability. Sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
