If Tia Carrere, one of five Hawaiian music nominees in the Feb. 10 Grammy awards, cops the prize, she'll have a Hawaiian drink with which to celebrate.
Carrere's "Pua 'Olena" on her nominated CD, "Hawaiiana," has inspired a cocktail with the sweetness of the 'olena blossom. The drink, called Pua 'Olena, is a creation by bartender Bob Melton of Chuck's Steakhouse at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach; his recipe topped the Outrigger's annual Signature Drink Contest, which also included competitors from the Outrigger Reef on the Beach and the Keauhou Beach Resort on the Big Island.
"The way Tia sings 'Pua 'Olena' inspired me to make a drink seeking the same sweet smell and essence of the 'olena blossom," said Melton. The recipe blends ginger vodka, coconut rum, lychee liqueur and fruit juices.
It's Melton's second consecutive win, in which Hawai'i's Grammy-nominated music influences beverages on Outrigger hotel drink menus.
Carrere is known for such hit films as "True Lies" and "Wayne's World" and is the voice of Nani, the older sister, on Disney's "Lilo & Stitch" film and TV series.

TURNER DIED OF COCAINE OVERDOSE
SAN DIEGO — Rocker Ike Turner's death last month at age 76 was caused by a cocaine overdose, the San Diego County medical examiner's office said yesterday.
"We are listing that he abused cocaine, and that's what resulted in the cocaine toxicity," said Paul Parker, chief investigator at the office.
Hypertensive cardiovascular disease and pulmonary emphysema were also "significant and contributing factors" in Turner's Dec. 12 death, Parker said.
SIMPSON FREED ON DOUBLED BAIL
LAS VEGAS — O.J. Simpson again walked free from a Las Vegas jail late yesterday, hours after a judge blistered him for "arrogance or ignorance" for breaking bail terms in a robbery case.
Simpson posted bond and was released from jail just after 11 p.m. He walked out by himself and quickly got into a white Mercedes and was driven away without comment to waiting reporters.
Earlier in the day, with his hands cuffed at his waist and a defeated expression on his face, Simpson was lectured by Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass as she doubled his bail to $250,000.
"I don't know, Mr. Simpson, what the heck you were thinking, or maybe that's the problem — you weren't," Glass said.
