Kauai man, 81, struck by vehicle

An 81-year-old Kaua'i man was seriously injured yesterday after being struck while crossing Kaumuali'i Highway in Kalaheo.
The man was taken to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital and was in guarded condition.
Police said the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk fronting Holy Cross church at 7:05 a.m. when he was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 53-year-old male visitor from New Mexico.
WAIA'ANAE MAN CHARGED IN ASSAULT
Prosecutors yesterday charged a 62-year-old Wai'anae man for allegedly threatening a woman with a sheathed knife and hitting her on the arms and legs.
George R. Santos was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault for the alleged incident at his Hoaha Place home.
POLICE INVESTIGATE CHILD-ABUSE CLAIM
Honolulu police were investigating the alleged videotaping of a consensual sexual encounter involving a 17-year-old girl who was unaware she was being taped.
The alleged incident took place on Oct. 5, but was only reported recently.
Police were investigating the complaint as first-degree promotion of child abuse, violation of privacy and third-degree assault.
An 18-year-old man was arrested for questioning.
SUSPECT HELD IN BANK ROBBERY
Police last night arrested a 20-year-old man in 'Ewa Beach as a suspect in last Friday's American Savings Bank robbery in Waipahu and Monday's American Savings Bank robbery at 'Ewa Town Center.
The man, who has no permanent local address or adult major criminal record, was expected to be charged in a federal complaint today with first-degree robbery.
Police arrested the suspect at 91-449 'Ewa Beach Road at 7 p.m.
KEA'AU MAN HELD IN DOMESTIC THREAT
Big Island police yesterday charged a Kea'au man for allegedly threatening a woman with an assault rifle.
Van Uemura, 29, was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family/household member. He was released after posting $2,000 bail.
Uemura was arrested Wednesday after a one-hour standoff with police on Ipuaiwaha Street. Police had gone to investigate a domestic argument report involving a weapon at 7:55 a.m. and to assist a woman, 28, in leaving a home.
While there, police allegedly saw Uemura with an assault rifle.
SEMINAR OFFERED ON SCHOLARSHIPS
Students and parents interested in learning how to get college scholarships can attend a free event from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 31 at Windward Community College.
The meeting will be at the Hale Akoakoa building.
"College is possible with a little help," said WCC's financial aid adviser Steven Chigawa. "The added benefit is that scholarships are free monies that do not need to be repaid."
Chigawa will introduce three new scholarships designed for WCC students.
Students and parents will be able to talk with several experts in the financial and scholastic field.
