Spend a week camping while learning about Hawaiian culture
Advertiser Staff
Aloha Music Camp, the musical Beamer family's biennial celebration of Hawaiian culture, offers instruction in slack-key guitar, 'ukulele, Hawaiian language and hula through workshops and evening concerts under Moloka'i's spectacular night sky.
"You don't need to be a musician or dancer," said Keola Beamer. "The camp is open to anyone who simply enjoys Hawai'i and wants to experience the culture firsthand."
New this year: chef Elmer Guzman of The Poke Stop restaurant on O'ahu will demonstrate how to prepare poke, reef fish and laulau.
Guests stay in canvas-framed tentalows on elevated wood platforms with queen or twin-sized beds, with private bath/hot water, solar-powered lights and ceiling fans, maid service, and secluded lanai offering ocean views.
Camps are Feb. 3-9 and June 23-28 at Moloka'i Ranch. Cost is $2,150 per person, double occupancy; $600 for children under 12 with an adult, and includes six nights lodging, all meals, workshops and evening performances. Spouse/companion rates available. 808-270-3090, www.AlohaMusicCamp.com.
