Palazzo luxury: Las Vegas' newest luxury resort, Palazzo Las Vegas, opened Thursday. (The casino opened last month.) The 50-story building has 45 pools and fountains, and four 80-foot-high glass domes. The all-suite hotel offers a sunken living room, marble baths and remote-control Roman shades in each suite. Restaurants include Carne Vino by Mario Batali, Cut by Wolfgang Puck, Table 101 by Emeril Lagasse and Restaurant Charlie by Charlie Trotter.
If you're shopping, check out the 85,000-square-foot Barneys New York at the base of the building. Entertainment this spring features the Tony Award-winning musical "Jersey Boys" in the Palazzo's 1,800-seat theater. But most of the action is in the immense casino, which aims for the high-rollers. "Mamma Mia!" celebrates its fifth anniversary in Las Vegas and plans to extend its record-breaking run through Jan. 4, 2009; the popular musical was to end in August after more than 2,300 performances. The show, which features the songs of ABBA, is the longest-running and most successful full-length Broadway musical to play Las Vegas. The American Superstars has added tribute artist John Anthony as Rod Stewart to its line-up. Anthony performs a set of Stewart's biggest hits including "Infatuation," "Hot Legs" and "Maggie May." American Superstars features Darren Lee as Elvis, Kristie Fisher as Britney Spears, Chad Givens as Tim McGraw and Lorena Peril as Christina Aguilera. NATIONAL PARKS
Death Valley National Park: Winter is the most popular time of the year to visit this strange and quietly beautiful California park, particularly during January and February. The park's three lodges, two RV parks and nine campgrounds provide overnight accommodations for Death Valley visitors. The majority of travelers visit the park during the months of March, April, August and September. The Grand Canyon Railway's Winter Getaway package includes roundtrip train travel to Grand Canyon National Park, accommodations at Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, Ariz., breakfast, lunch, dinner and a motorcoach tour at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon through the end of February. Participants depart Williams midmorning for the 65-mile trip to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Once at the South Rim, they board a bus for a narrated tour, returning to the train in midafternoon for the trip back to Williams.
