Join us as we take a tour on the PGA Tour with Parker McLachlin, a former Punahou athlete. McLachlin is in his second year on the PGA Tour. He joins Castle alum Dean Wilson as the only Hawai'i golfers on the PGA Tour. McLachlin, Waikoloa's touring pro, will write his impressions on events that he's just completed and tournaments that are upcoming on his calendar.
Aloha from Scottsdale,
It's funny how life works. I got sick a few weeks ago and had to miss the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. That Saturday afternoon, as many of you know, my dad (KFVE sports analyst Chris McLachlin) had a stroke. If I had been playing that week and found out on the golf course, it would have been a huge challenge for me to get up to Stanford in a moment's notice. Luckily, I missed the tournament and was able to fly up there from Phoenix as soon as I possibly could.
Since we are on the subject of my dad, I want to reach out to all of you who have been reading about his stroke and his recovery. I'm happy to report that he's doing much better and we all expect a full recovery. He was released from the hospital late last week and I'm happy to report that while his energy isn't as high as it normally is, his goal is to walk Pebble Beach with me next week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. I really want to thank all of the Hawai'i 'ohana that has been so supportive over the past few weeks.
Last week I tied for 29th at the Buick Invitational. It was Tiger Woods' debut. Tiger's win was impressive considering the strength of last week's field. I struggled a little bit from an energy standpoint because of what was going on with my dad, but some weeks you understand that not everything is lining up the way you want it to and you still go out there and give it your best shot and see what happens. I talked to my dad and he wanted me to play last week so I went out and, knowing that I didn't have a full tank of gas, tried my hardest.
One of the things that you notice about Tiger is that he didn't have his best stuff off the tee, but he was able to make up for it with great iron play and putting. That's where I am striving to get to. When I don't have it in one area of my game I'd like to have other areas excel and be really sharp.
This week I'm in Scottsdale, but I'm not playing because it's a small field. On a good note, that frees up my schedule to attend the Super Bowl between the Patriots and the Giants. I'm really looking forward to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am next week. It's one of my favorite stops on Tour and I'm looking forward to playing a practice round on Tuesday with my new friend, George Lopez, whom I met at the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
Mahalo for now, and thanks again for all your support.
