ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia baseball coach David Perno earned a raise and a five-year contract after leading the Bulldogs to the Southeastern Conference regular-season championship and a runner-up finish in the College World Series.

Georgia athletic director Damon Evans announced the five-year, $2.25 million deal today after Perno coached the Bulldogs to their third College World Series appearance in the last five seasons.

Perno will earn $450,000 per season over the next five years, a raise of about $150,000 per year. The contract extends through the 2013 season.

"I'm very pleased with the opportunity to be at Georgia and hope to be here a long time," said Perno, an Athens native who also played at Georgia. "The support we've received from our administration is very much appreciated."

Perno is one of only 12 coaches to lead three teams to the College World Series in their first seven seasons as a head coach.
