ATLANTA — Kyle Kendrick and the Philadelphia Phillies emerged from their interleague blahs to resume their mastery of the Atlanta Braves, ruining the surprise return of Chipper Jones.

Shane Victorino hit a home run and drove in four runs, and Kendrick and the Phillies beat the Braves, 8-3, last night to remain unbeaten at Turner Field this season.

Pat Burrell also hit a homer for the Phillies, who improved to 6-1 against the Braves this season. They are 4-0 in Atlanta.

The Phillies spoiled the return of Jones, who missed eight straight starts with a strained right quadriceps. Jones, 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, had been expected to go on the DL but instead told manager Bobby Cox before the game that he was ready to play. He said he had no problems with the injury but added. "We got our butts whipped tonight."

Kendrick (8-3) is 2-0 against the Braves this season and 3-0 in his career.

"I don't know what it is," said Kendrick, who gave up seven hits and three runs in six innings.

The Phillies took three straight wins in Atlanta on June 6-8 but then lost six straight series, including four against American League teams. Manager Charlie Manuel said his team may have found comfort in facing the Braves, a familiar opponent.

"Yeah, it can help you without a doubt," Manuel said.

"Maybe (Monday's) day off helped us too, and absolutely getting over here where we know the players."

The Phillies, only 4-11 in interleague play, are 41-28 against NL teams.

Burrell hit a second-inning homer and Victorino, a St. Anthony alum from Maui, added a two-run shot in the Phillies' four-run third.

Victorino drove in two more runs with a bases-loaded single in the ninth.

Mets 7, Cardinals 4: Tony Armas gave up four runs and eight hits in his season debut after a minor league callup, eighth-place hitter Ramon Castro had two hits and three RBIs, and David Wright hit his 16th homer and was a triple short of the cycle as visiting New York beat St. Louis.

Nationals 9, Marlins 6: Collin Balester won his major league debut, giving up a run on just one hit in five innings, and Ronnie Belliard hit a grand slam for a 6-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning as Washington held on to beat Florida.

Rockies 4, Padres 0: Aaron Cook (11-5) tossed a five-hitter for the first shutout of his career, and host Colorado used a four-run fifth, helped by shortstop Khalil Greene's two-run throwing error, to end beat San Diego and end its eight-game losing streak.

Pirates 6, Reds 5: Jack Wilson's run-scoring triple off David Weathers (2-4) snapped a 4-all tie in the top of the 11th, and Nate McLouth followed with a run-scoring single, helping Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati, which rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning.

Dodgers 7, Astros 6: Russell Martin hit a two-run homer in the first, but it took Jeff Kent's solo homer off Wesley Wright in the top of the 11th inning to help Los Angeles, which blew a five-run lead, beat Houston for the first time in five meetings this season.

Brewers 8, Diamondbacks 6: J.J. Hardy homered twice and visiting Milwaukee defeated Arizona, handing Randy Johnson, who allowed seven runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings in his shortest start of the season, his sixth straight loss.

Giants 2, Cubs 1: Matt Cain (5-6) scattered two hits and struck out 10 in eight shutout innings, and Fred Lewis, who stole home in the first, scored on Randy Winn's RBI single in the sixth as host San Francisco held off Chicago, which scored in the ninth on Geovany Soto's RBI single.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

RAYS 3, RED SOX 1: Matt Garza (7-4) allowed an unearned run and five hits over seven innings, and Dioner Navarro snapped a fourth-inning tie with an RBI single off Tim Wakefield (5-6) as host Tampa Bay beat Boston to extended its lead in the AL East to 2 1/2 games over the second-place Red Sox.

Rangers 3, Yankees 2: Ian Kinsler doubled to left, stole third — his third steal of the game — and scored on Michael Young's single off Mariano Rivera (2-3) in the top of the ninth inning to break a 2-all tie and lift Texas to its second straight win over New York.

White Sox 3, Indians 2: Alexei Ramirez tied it with a two-out homer, pinch-hitter DeWayne Wise singled, stole second and scored on Orlando Cabrera's single to center off Joe Borowski (1-3) in the bottom of the 10th inning as Chicago rallied past Cleveland for its sixth straight win.

Twins 6, Tigers 4: Craig Monroe hit a three-run homer, Justin Morneau added three hits, and Mike Redmond had two RBIs to help host Minnesota beat Detroit for its eighth win in 10 games and 12th in its last 14.

Orioles 7, Royals 5: Brian Roberts homered, Ramon Hernandez and Adam Jones had two RBIs apiece, and host Baltimore rebounded from two straight frustrating losses by beating Kansas City.

Angels 5, Athletics 3: Vladimir Guerrero triggered a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single, and Garret Anderson capped it with a two-run homer, helping Los Angeles beat Oakland.

Mariners 7, Blue Jays 6: Richie Sexson led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a homer to tie the game at 6-all, and Willie Bloomquist singled home Raul Ibanez with the winning run in the ninth as Seattle rallied from an early 6-2 deficit to beat Toronto.
