Forfeited cricket test is now a draw

Associated Press

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The forfeited test between Pakistan and England in 2006 because of a ball-tampering dispute — the first forfeit in test cricket's 131-year history — will be changed from an English victory to a draw.

The decision by the International Cricket Council on Thursday means England won the four-test series 2-0 instead of 3-0.

Umpire Darrell Hair accused Pakistan of ball tampering in the final test at The Oval. The team then refused to come out to play after tea on the fourth day and the match was awarded to England.

Hair was later banned from the ICC elite umpire's panel and returned only after completing a "rehabilitation program" last September, when he also dropped a claim of racial discrimination against the ICC in the British High Court.
