Some 61 fugitives were rounded up on Maui and O'ahu by officers and agents from throughout the state who participated in the U.S. Marshals-led "Operation Falcon" June 24 to 27.
Fifty-one of the fugitives captured during the four-day operation which concentrated on Maui were from that island, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals office here. Some 67 warrants were cleared and 14 new cases for various narcotics violations were generated.
The warrants that were served were for various felony offenses, including promoting dangerous drugs, methamphetamine trafficking and manslaughter. Officers seized approximately 4 grams of methamphetamine, 46 prescription drug pills, and 21 marijuana plants, according to the news release.
Operation FALCON is the largest U.S. Marshals Service-led fugitive apprehension initiative. It combines the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies all working for a common goal, making the community safer, the news release said. The operation, led by the U.S. Marshals Hawaii Fugitive Task Force, included over 30 law enforcement officers from nine different agencies.
"The success of this mission can be attributed to the sincerity of commitment by Hawaii law enforcement to act as one body in apprehending violent fugitives," said Mark "Dutch" Hanohano, U.S. Marshal for the District of Hawaii.
