Honolulu airport cell-phone waiting areas to shut temporarily

The Diamond Head cell-phone waiting area at the Honolulu International Airport on Aolele Street between the Delta and United airlines cargo facilities will be closed tomorrow and Tuesday for cleaning and sealing of the parking lot area.

The state Department of Transportation is asking the public to use the 'ewa end cell-phone waiting area near the post office at the intersection of Nimitz Highway and Aolele Street on Service Road A. The area is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., the department said.

The cell-phone waiting areas were opened by the state to eliminate the need for motorists to loop around the airport repeatedly while waiting to pick up arriving passengers at baggage claim areas.

Maps of the cell-phone waiting areas are available at the airport's Web site, http://hawaii.gov/dot/airports/hnl.
