TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Burn Notice" season opener, 10 p.m., USA Network. Abandoned by the CIA, Michael Westen continues to have big problems. On his side — occasionally — are a beauty (Gabrielle Anwar) who's a great shot, a former spy (Bruce Campbell) who's a layabout and a mom (Sharon Gless) who's needy. Now he gets instructions by phone from Carla, with a voice so sensuous that he assumes she's beautiful. She is. Carla (who shows up for only a moment tonight) is played by Tricia Helfer, the "Battlestar Galactica" cylon. Against a Miami backdrop, tonight's episode has beauty, adventure and wit.
"Greatest American Dog" debut, 7 p.m., CBS. A dozen dogs and their people live together and face challenges. We haven't seen this one, but the concept is promising. Also, the host (Jarod Miller) is passionate about animals.
OF NOTE
"Last Comic Standing," 7 p.m., NBC. Last week's episode (partially rerun at 8 p.m.) chose 12 finalists. Now they try quick comic punches in a boxing ring.
"The Works" debut, 10 p.m., History Channel. Each week, this will view the complexities behind guy-type things. Beer is next week; tonight's opener deals with garbage. The average person disposes of 102 tons of it. This trails it from a New York door to a landfill park.
"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. A convict (Method Man) is sprung from prison to help solve a crime.
"Swingtown," 9 p.m., CBS. Even an open marriage can stir some jealousy. Tom fumes when Trina meets her high-school sweetheart.
